WHEN did this happen??

My child -- he remembers things. Yeah, Yeah, I know he can sing songs and he remembers names, but worse -- he remembers things, as in things that I have told him. After time and activities have passed and changed.

My world. It is over.

Last night we were outside playing with the dog. He wanted to take Kleenex for a walk. While we were walking (he was carrying the leash -- by himself, mind you), I told him that he could have a bubble bath. He said baaaa? buuubbbooooees? (Translation: Bath? Bubbles?)

We turned around to come home. He had to sit in time-out for throwing a tantrum. He did not want to return home. When we returned home, we played a bit, watched a bit more of an animated movie we'd started earlier. Then, we told him it was time for bed.

I had forgotten what I had told him earlier. As we were undressing him, he said "Baaaa??"

Me: "No, not tonight. Let's just go to bed. It's late."

His response was immediate whining" NO! MAMA! BA! BUH-BO!

He remembered that I had told him he could have a bubble bath. Thirty minutes before.

This means two things:
  1. I'm in trouble. No longer can I distract him by saying we're going to do something... No longer can I forget if I've told him we'd move on to another activity. If I say "do you want to ride your bike?" I'd better mean it... Even an hour or two later.
  2. He's in trouble. If he can remember stuff like that, he surely can remember that throwing things is a No-No. Right? I've been giving him waaaaay too much lee-way.
He's also begun yelling for me. As in: MOOOOOOOO-OOOM!! Mom! MOM! mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom. I have a friend and her son to thank for that. It's gotten annoying already, and he's only been at it for a day. It's going to be a loooooong 18 years.

They never forget. I can still remember many things from my childhood, and I can hold a grudge. My brother, he broke my smurf chair, on Christmas Morning! I was a sad little girl! Then, one day, he smashed my clown crayon holder. I'm like an elephant, (besides being as big as one) I NEVER forget. At least not things that will further my agenda some day. I never saw Spiderman until this past year, because hubby and Dougie went to see it without me. So every time it came on TV, I made him change the channel, and we couldn't go see Spidey 2, or 3, because I hadn't seen the first, because HE went to see it without me. But I finally gave in. But still, he went without me.

But anyway, my point is, they never forget, it may be 30 minuets now, but just try remembering that you said they could do something three days, or three weeks ago. We are all in big trouble. :)

He's been remembering for a while and was waiting for the right time to let the secret out :)
